We started WP-WebWorks because as small business owners who’ve spent countless $$$ on web development and design services over the years, we were always looking for ways to reduce the constant “dollar-drain” that our website always seemed to be.
Every time we needed to change a price, add a product or make a small update to my website it cost a minimum fee and usually for a 15 minute minimum, even though many times the actual work probably only took 5 minutes to complete – now that is, 15 minutes if you know what you’re doing, but we didn’t know what we were doing or how to do what we wanted done…so we paid…and paid…and paid.
There’s no denying that every small business has to have a website these days, but we were looking for a solution that we could have set up for us and then ‘manage’ the small tweaks ourselves without having to constantly pay and/or wait to have basic changes or updates done by a designer.
WordPress (WP to the initiated or the lazy depending how you look at it) has been around for just about a decade now, but we discovered it just around 2008 and there’s been some impressive changes and evolution since then. The real beauty of WP for us, was that it finally put us in control of our web presence and at a much lower cost than ever before!
So our goal with WP-WebWorks is to help businesses (especially small businesses who’re usually working with a tight budget) take control of their website and manage all but the real techie stuff for themselves. Now there’s a caveat to that – what people tell us they want is a website that looks professional, attracts traffic (meaning it’s well optimized for search engines) and user friendly (meaning humans like it too).
Having a professional looking and effective website that drives dollars to your door is easily accomplished with WordPress, the ‘right’ plugins and a little bit of knowledge that can be picked up over time as your site grows, your skills can grow with it. Inevitably, the combination of skills learned and knowledge gained leads to a greater reduction in web development costs, especially over time.
Like anything else worth doing, it’s worth doing well and depending on just how tech-savvy you are, there’ll still be an up-front cost and definitely a learning curve while you gather the skills and knowledge you’ll need before you’ll be ready to be completely go it alone.
However, you that’s where we come in, you can use our services to jump start things, then as your own skills improve, you can do more (or all) of the maintenance and regular site management yourself and just use us if and when you want to add something a little more techie – that’s why we say “We Do The Tech – You Do The Tweaks” and it’s also why we say “Hire Us Then Fire Us!” 🙂
